Innovation Station: SoMa Here We Come!

by Jacqueline Reses, Chief Development Officer, Yahoo!

Today, I have the pleasure of announcing that we’ll be moving our Yahoo! San Francisco team to a space within the San Francisco Chronicle building at Fifth and Mission later this year. We’re designing a cool, fun and beautiful space to inspire collaboration and innovation.

These days, transformation is palpable everywhere you turn at Yahoo!. For this reason, we love the symbolism of moving into the Chronicle building, as it personifies the digital revolution in how people around the world consume media.

Our spacious new office will allow us to continue the growth of our team. We’ll have a fabulous onsite environment, including great food, a game room, collaborative work stations, and ample room for teams to work together and have fun.

And of course, there’s the neighborhood: the Chronicle building is located in the dynamic Market Street area of San Francisco. We’re excited to expand our team next door to a number of tech trailblazers who also call this neighborhood home.

Over the last year, we’ve significantly expanded our San Francisco team, where you can find many of the greatest engineering minds behind Flickr and other Yahoo! products, like our modernized Yahoo! homepage, a completely new Yahoo! News for Web, mobile and tablets, and the new Yahoo! Mail. We have an incredibly talented group in the City by the Bay, and look forward to continuing that growth in months and years to come.

Mayor of San Francisco Edwin M. Lee said, “Technology companies both large and small thrive in vibrant, collaborative urban environments where they employ residents and drive economic growth. I am delighted that Yahoo! is moving to the 5M Project and expanding their presence in San Francisco, the Innovation Capital of the World, where they will have access to our City’s world class talent.”

Stephen T. Hearst, vice president and general manager of Hearst Corporation’s Western Properties, which owns the property, shared his thoughts about our upcoming move: “We are extremely pleased to bring Yahoo! in as a quality tenant at the 5M Project. Yahoo!’s innovative mission makes it a great fit for 5M, which continues to thrive as a creative and economic engine in the neighborhood.”

Qwiki: Qwiki + Yahoo!

qwikiblog:

Today, we’re thrilled to announce that Qwiki is joining Yahoo!

On a journey that took us from NYC to San Francisco and back again, the Qwiki team has spent the past few years creating products and technology that make it easy to share and discover stories.

It has been extremely…

We’re excited to announce that Yahoo! acquired Qwiki - a company that uses awesome  technology to bring together pictures, music and video to capture the art of storytelling.

Have you ever listened to an old song and all of a sudden a favorite vacation, concert, or summer memory pops into your mind?  The Qwiki app automatically turns pictures and videos that you already have on your iPhone into quick, beautiful movies to share, including transitions and a soundtrack.

Sharing a Qwiki is easy, whether you want to share your favorite moments from Coachella with your Facebook friends or celebrate the best moments from your sister’s wedding.

We will continue to support the Qwiki app, and the team will join Yahoo! in our New York city office to reimagine Yahoo!’s storytelling experience.  Stay tuned … there’s much more to come!
